The recognition of this spider as an Eilica species was based on its similarity with other known Eilica species and the original description of the genus Eilica as presented in the following paper: Platnick N.I. (1975) "A Revision of the Spider Genus Eilica (Araneae, Gnaphosidae)" American Museum Novitates 2578, pages 1-19.

The distinguishing feature of this spider is the orange patch at the rear of the abdomen.
